Definition
复读 has two distinct senses. The first refers to repeating a recorded phrase or passage for language learning practice, often using a '复读机' (repeater/tape recorder). The second, very common in Chinese education, means to retake a year of school (usually after failing an exam) — students who do this are called '复读生'. As a verb in either sense, it takes normal verb-object syntax and is not separable; duration or goal can follow directly (复读一年, 复读英语句子).
