Definition
备课 (bèi kè) is specifically for teachers preparing lessons, unlike 预习 (yù xí) which is for students previewing material, and 预备 (yù bèi) which is general preparation. It is a separable verb (离合词): the object 课 can be inserted between 备 and 课, e.g., 备了一个小时的课.
