备忘录 (bèi wàng lù) refers to a memo or notebook used for practical reminders – a tool for jotting down things to remember. 回忆录 (huí yì lù) is a memoir, a narrative account of past experiences, often published as a book. While both are records, a 备忘录 is for day-to-day notes, while a 回忆录 is a personal retrospection.
