Definition
堂哥 refers to your father's brother's son who is older than you — in English simply 'male cousin', but Chinese distinguishes paternal (堂) from maternal (表) cousins, and also distinguishes older vs younger (哥 vs 弟). This term assumes you share the same surname because your fathers are brothers.
