Definition
埔 (bù) is a bound morpheme — it never stands alone as a word. You'll only find it inside place names, where it means 'flat land near a river or ocean.' Common examples are 黄埔 (Huángpǔ, a district in Shanghai) and 大埔 (Dàbù, a town in Hong Kong and elsewhere). When you see 埔 in a name, remember it's pronounced with the 3rd tone bù, not pǔ.
