Definition
坐镇 means 'to personally take command at a key location' or 'to garrison an area'. It is a separable verb (离合词): when inserting a time duration or measure word, the two characters split apart, as in 坐了三天镇 ('took command for three days'). You can also use it directly with a location object: 坐镇前线 ('personally command at the front line').
