Definition
围堵 is broader than the military gloss suggests: you'll see it in police operations ('encircle and surround suspects'), sports ('trap the opponent'), and political discourse ('containment policy', as in 围堵中国). The verb carries a sense of cutting off escape routes or restricting movement from all sides.
