Definition
回国 is a separable verb (离合词) that means 'to return to one's home country (especially after being abroad)'. The verb 回 and the object 国 can be split by aspect markers (了, 过), duration, or measure words — for example, 回了国 ('returned home'), 回过国 ('have returned home before'). You cannot put a destination directly after 回国; instead, say 从美国回国 ('return to China from the US').
