啪 is an onomatopoeia for a sharp, sudden sound — like a slap, a bang, a gunshot, or a drop hitting a surface. You often hear it doubled (啪啪) for continuous sounds like clapping or rain on a window. It appears standalone or as the first part of a compound (一声啪).
