Definition
啊呀 is an interjection used to express sudden surprise, concern, pain, or mild frustration. You'll hear it in spontaneous reactions — when you realize you forgot something, stub your toe, or are startled. Unlike the English "oops" or "oh my", it can also convey a gentle sense of urgency or appeal. Place it at the very start of an utterance, before a comma or exclamation mark.
interjection
oh! / ah! / my gosh! (expresses surprise, pain, realization, or urging)
