Definition
唱腔 refers to the vocal style or melodic patterns used in traditional Chinese opera (such as Peking opera, Kunqu, etc.). It's the sung part of a performance — the tune, phrasing, and ornamentation specific to a role type or school — distinct from spoken dialogue (念白) and instrumental music. Different role types (生、旦、净、末、丑) have their own characteristic 唱腔.
