哭鼻子 is a colloquial separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to cry or whimper', often used for children or when the crying is a bit whiny. The verb 哭 can be separated from 鼻子 by aspect markers (了, 过), duration (一场), or measure words (一次), as in 哭了一次鼻子 ('cried once'). It is not used in formal writing: in casual speech it can replace the more neutral 哭 for a playful or affectionate tone.
