Definition
和面 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to knead dough'. When you add measure words, duration, or other complements, the verb 和 and the object 面 split apart — for example, 和了半天面 ('kneaded dough for half a day') or 和过一次面 ('kneaded dough once'). It cannot take a direct object; you simply use 和面 as a unit in its unsplit form.
