Definition
和亲 is a historical Chinese policy of arranging marriages between imperial princesses and non-Han rulers to secure border peace through family ties. It's a separable verb (离合词): you can insert measure words or time phrases between 和 and 亲, e.g. 和过一次亲 ('once implemented a marriage alliance'). The literal sense 'to become close and intimate through marriage' is now rare — in modern usage you'll almost only see it referring to ancient diplomatic marriages.
