Definition
向阳 is a separable verb-object compound (离合词), literally 'face the sun'. It means 'to be exposed to the sun, sunny', and by extension describes a house or room that faces south (the ideal orientation for sunlight in China). The two syllables can split when inserting aspect markers like 着, 了, 过 — e.g. 向着阳 ('facing the sun'). It is commonly used as a stative verb or adjective-like modifier (向阳的房间).
