Definition
名声 (míng shēng) is the neutral, general word for 'reputation' — it can be good or bad, and applies to people, companies, etc. It is broader than 名气 (míng qi, 'fame/popularity'), less formal than 声誉 (shēng yù, often for institutions), and distinct from 信誉 (xìn yù, 'credibility'), 声望 (shēng wàng, 'prestige'), and 威信 (wēi xìn, 'moral authority').
