Definition
合理化 is a verb formed with the suffix 化 ('-ize'), meaning 'to make something reasonable, efficient, or systematically organized'. It is commonly used in business, management, and production contexts (e.g. 合理化建议 'rationalization proposal'). The English word 'rationalize' also has a second sense of 'to justify with excuses', which 合理化 does NOT cover — for that meaning, use 找借口 (zhǎo jièkǒu) instead.
