Definition
叫门 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning to call out at someone's door in order to be let in. It is often used in formal or literary contexts, such as visiting a friend or requesting entry. The two characters can separate when adding complements or durations: 叫了几声门 ('called at the door a few times'). The person being visited is usually introduced with 跟 or 对, not placed directly after 叫门.
