Definition
叫作 (jiào zuò) means 'to be called / to be known as' and is slightly more formal than 叫 (jiào) when introducing a name or term. It is less formal than 称为 (chēng wéi), which is used in more written or official contexts. Unlike 叫, 叫作 does not have the meanings 'to call (someone)' or 'to tell/ask'.
