Definition
另 (lìng) is used before a measure word or numeral-measure word to mean 'another' or 'other' (e.g., 另一本书 'another book'). It is more compact than 另外 (lìng wài), which can also be an adverb ('in addition') or conjunction ('moreover'). For 'other' as a standalone pronoun (e.g., 'I want another'), use 别的 (bié de) or 其他 (qí tā) instead.
