Definition
叛 is a bound form (b.f.) — it cannot stand alone as a word. It appears as the first morpheme in words like 背叛 (bèipàn) 'to betray', 叛乱 (pànluàn) 'rebellion', 叛徒 (pàntú) 'traitor', and 叛变 (pànbiàn) 'to defect'. All carry a negative sense of disloyalty or uprising.
