Definition
务农 is a formal verb-object compound (离合词) meaning 'to farm' or 'to engage in agriculture'. It contrasts with 务工 (work in industry) or 经商 (do business) and is often used in discussions of occupational choice. As a separable verb, you can split 务 and 农 to insert time duration (务了三年农), frequency (务过一次农), or other modifiers. It does not take a direct object — you say 务农 itself, not 务农村.
