Definition
加 (jiā) is a verb meaning 'to add' — you put something in or combine things (e.g., add salt to soup, add numbers). It differs from 增加 (zēngjiā), which means 'to increase' (make a quantity larger), and from 加上 (jiāshàng), a conjunction meaning 'plus, in addition' (used to introduce an extra point). 加 can also mean 'to apply' (restrictions, support) in more formal contexts.
