Definition
加大 is a resultative verb compound (V + 大 'big') meaning 'to enlarge' or 'to increase'. In advanced usage it is most often applied to abstract nouns like 力度 (intensity), 投入 (investment), 规模 (scale), or 强度 (strength) — English 'enlarge' alone doesn't capture this collocational range. You would not use 加大 for physical photos or rooms (use 放大 or 扩大 instead); use it for stepping up effort, expanding operations, or intensifying measures.
