前线 (qián xiàn) is the general term for 'front line' — both military and metaphorical (e.g., technological frontier). It is broader than 前沿 (qián yán 'frontier'), 一线 (yī xiàn 'first line of work'), and 阵地 (zhèn dì 'military position / stronghold').
