Both 初衷 and 本意 refer to an original intention, but 初衷 emphasizes the initial aim one sets out with, often in a long-term undertaking (e.g., a mission, a project). 本意 is more general, covering 'real intention' behind an action and also the literal meaning of a word. Use 初衷 when talking about staying true to one's original purpose.
