Definition
分门别类 is a fixed expression (chengyu) meaning 'to classify or categorize things into distinct groups'. It is often used with the 把 construction to indicate sorting items into categories. The literal imagery ('divide gates, separate categories') is not used literally; learners should treat it as a single verb meaning 'categorize'.
