Definition
分忧 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to share someone's worries or burdens.' The verb 分 and the noun 忧 can split apart when inserting a complement or measure word, e.g., 分了不少忧 ('shared quite a few worries'). You typically use it with 为 (wèi) to indicate for whom you are sharing the burden: 为他分忧 ('share his burdens'). The splitting pattern is common in both spoken and written Chinese.
