Definition
出嫁 refers specifically to a woman getting married and leaving her birth family to join her husband's household. It is a separable verb (离合词): the verb 出 can separate from the object 嫁 when adding aspect markers or measure words, e.g., 出了嫁 ('got married') or 出过嫁 ('has been married before'). The term carries a cultural nuance of the bride's transition to her husband's family, which is different from the more general 结婚.
