Definition
出事 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to have an accident' or 'something bad happens'. It can be split: 出了事 (had an accident), 出过事 (has had accidents before), 出什么事了 (what happened?). The object 事 can take modifiers or measure words between 出 and 事. It's commonly used with 了 to indicate that an incident has occurred.
