Definition
凡是 (fán shì) means 'every, all, any (without exception)' and is used before a noun phrase, often paired with 都 in the main clause. It is more formal and emphatic than 每 (měi, 'each/every'), and unlike 全 (quán, which can be an adjective or adverb), 凡是 specifically introduces a condition that applies to all members of a category.
