Definition
冻结 (dòng jié) is the formal verb for 'to freeze' — used both literally for water/ice and figuratively for assets, accounts, or prices. It contrasts with 冻 (dòng, HSK5), which is more colloquial and also means 'to feel very cold' (身子冻了), and with 冷冻 (lěng dòng, HSK7), which specifically refers to freezing food for preservation. Unlike 凝固 (níng gù, 'to solidify'), 冻结 always involves cold or the metaphoric freezing of financial items.
