Definition
冒雨 is a verb-object structure (离合词) meaning 'to brave the rain' — you do something despite the rain falling. It can be split: 冒着雨 (mào zhe yǔ) inserts 着 to show the continuous state of the rain. When you use 冒雨, it's always followed by another verb expressing the action taken (去, 来, 走, etc.). The rain itself is the object of 冒, so you cannot put another object after 冒雨.
