Definition
冒名 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to assume another's name or identity.' You can separate 冒 and 名 by inserting a modifier: 冒别人的名 ('take someone else's name'). It's often used in the chengyu 冒名顶替 (mào míng dǐng tì, 'to impersonate someone'). Be careful that 冒名 doesn't mean just 'to sign your name' — it always involves deception.
