冒充 specifically means to impersonate a person or claim a false identity/role (e.g., posing as a professor). It differs from 假装, which covers pretending any state or action (like illness), and from 伪装, which emphasizes physical disguise. 假冒 is similar but more often used for counterfeit goods.
