Definition
入列 is a military term meaning 'to fall in' or 'to take one's place in a formation'. It is a separable verb (离合词): the verb 入 and the object 列 can split when adding 了, 过, or measure words like 次 — for example, 入了列 ('fell in') or 入过列 ('have fallen in before'). You cannot put a direct object after 入列; instead, use a phrase like 让新兵入列 ('let the new recruits fall in').
