Definition
停战 is a verb-object separable compound (离合词): the verb 停 ('stop') takes the object 战 ('war/fighting'). You can insert measure words, aspect markers, or duration between the two syllables, e.g. 停过一次战 ('have called a truce once'). It can also be used as a noun ('ceasefire / armistice') in formal contexts.
