Definition
做媒 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to act as a matchmaker' or 'to arrange a marriage'. It is formed from 做 (to do) and 媒 (matchmaker). When you need to insert a measure word, duration, or other element, you split it: 做过一次媒 ('acted as a matchmaker once'), 做了几年媒 ('was a matchmaker for a few years'). The person you are matchmaking for is introduced with 给 or 为: 给他做媒. This term is culturally significant in traditional Chinese society, where matchmaking was a common profession.
