依照 (yī zhào) is a formal preposition meaning 'according to, in accordance with', used especially in legal, official, or written contexts. It is more formal than the common 按照 (àn zhào), and less flexible than 依 (yī) which also means 'to rely on'. As a verb, 依照 means 'to follow, comply with', similar to 遵照 (zūn zhào) but slightly less emphatic.
