佰 is the formal or 'banker's' form of the numeral 百 (hundred), used on checks, receipts, contracts, and other financial documents to prevent alterations. You should use it when writing out amounts in formal settings — for example, 贰佰元 (200 yuan) on a check. In everyday writing, the simpler form 百 is used instead.
