Definition
作践 (zuō jian) is a colloquial verb meaning 'to ill-use, to humiliate' when targeting people, or 'to waste, to ruin' when targeting objects or resources. The pronunciation zuō (first tone) is a northern dialectal variant; the standard reading zuò jiàn is also accepted. It often appears in informal speech.
