传闻 (chuán wén) means 'rumor, hearsay' — information passed by word of mouth that is not confirmed. It is more neutral than 谣言 (yáo yán), which specifically implies a false rumor; 传言 (chuán yán) is very close but is often used for the act of spreading a rumor rather than the rumor itself.
