Definition
传道 is a verb-object compound that literally means 'transmit the way/doctrine'. In classical Chinese contexts it refers to spreading the teachings of ancient sages (especially Confucian). In a religious context it means 'to preach' or 'to deliver a sermon' (commonly used in Christianity). As a separable verb (离合词), 传 and 道 can be split, e.g. 传了一次道 ('preached once') or 传着道 ('while preaching').
