Definition
任课 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to teach a course' or 'to be responsible for teaching a course'. When you need to specify the number of courses, a duration, or a complement, the verb-object pair splits: 任 + (measure word/duration) + 课. For example, 任了三门课 (taught three courses). You do not place an object directly after 任课; use the 在 + place + 任课 pattern to indicate where the teaching takes place.
