Definition
任职 (rèn zhí) is a general verb for 'holding a post' or 'taking office', often used with a duration. It contrasts with the more formal 就职/上任/就任 (the act of assuming a post) and 在职 (the state of being employed). 上岗 is more specific to starting a particular job.
