Definition
以西 is a suffix placed after a place name to indicate 'to the west of' that location. It follows the same pattern as 以东 (east of), 以南 (south of), and 以北 (north of). You can think of it as a directional postposition: [Place] + 以西 means 'west of [Place]'.
