代课 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to substitute for a teacher'. The verb 代 and object 课 can be separated when specifying duration, frequency, or the person being substituted for — for example, 代了一个月的课 ('substituted for a month'). You can also say 替某人代课 ('substitute for someone').
