Definition
仆 (pū) is a bound form meaning 'to fall forward', found mainly in literary or classical Chinese compounds. It is not used as an independent verb in modern Mandarin. The most common compound is 前仆后继 (qián pū hòu jì), meaning 'one falls, another steps in' — a metaphor for unyielding perseverance. Be careful not to confuse it with the same character pronounced pú, meaning 'servant'.
