Definition
仁慈 (rén cí) describes a benevolent, merciful kindness, often from someone in authority (a ruler, boss, or deity) who shows compassion to those in need. It emphasizes forgiving mercy more than 善良 (shàn liáng) 'kindhearted' or 慈善 (cí shàn) 'charitable', and unlike 慈祥 (cí xiáng) it is not limited to an elderly person's appearance.
