人群 (rén qún) refers to a physical crowd of people gathered together — a visible, often temporary gathering. Unlike 群 (qún), which is a classifier for groups of people or animals, 人群 is a noun. It is distinct from 群众 (qún zhòng), which means 'the masses' in a political or societal context, not a physical crowd.
